Spinal injuries are some of the most devastating experienced by individuals throughout South Florida. In the most serious situations victims’ may find that they are paralyzed and their lives altered forever.
These injuries are expensive to live with. In addition to needing special equipment to get around, in some situations it may be necessary to have someone around to regularly assist with seemingly mundane daily tasks.
Individuals who have been living with spinal cord injuries will likely be happy to hear about the results of a recent procedure performed by The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis. A man successfully received a human cell transplant of his own Schwann cells. The cells were harvested from the man’s leg. The successful transplant is just one of many steps that will need to be completed before an individual will be cured of paralysis, but it is a start.
There are many ways in which someone could suffer paralysis in the Miami area. Accidents, particularly those involving cars, are some of the most common. When these types of injuries occur, victims are understandably devastated. Besides dealing with the physical ramifications, most end up dealing with emotional issues as well. These can be difficult to work through.
When the accident that causes the injury is the fault of another person it is possible that the injured person may decide to file a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent party. The monetary damages secured in a successful lawsuit are often needed by the injured person to help cover the costs of their new way of living. Secondarily, it may provide a sense of emotional relief as well.
