Florida motorists who drive Volkswagens and certain other imports may want to contact their local dealer to find out if their vehicle is among the 2.6 million being recalled worldwide by the Volkswagen Group of Frankfurt, Germany. A company news release did not specify how many of the recalled vehicles were in the United States.
The automaker is issuing the recall because of defects in the electronic and drive systems. A good percentage of the affected vehicles are located in China, which is a big market for Volkswagen, and elsewhere in Asia. The list includes 1.6 million vehicles made by Volkswagen, including Audi, Skoda and Seat, that are being recalled because of fuel oil changes. Volkswagen says mineral oil, rather than synthetic oil, should be used. Volkswagen says using the synthetic lubricant can cause problems when the vehicle is being driven in stop-and-go traffic in hot, humid climates.
The Volkswagen Group also is recalling 800,000 Tiguans, its SUV model, for lighting problems, and 239,000 Amaroks, a pickup, because of fuel leaks. Volkswagen joins Chrysler, Toyota and Mitsubishi in issuing massive recalls of motor vehicles in the last three years. Regardless of how car accidents are caused, whether by defective parts of driver negligence, people who sustain injuries may be entitled to compensation, such as medical treatment and lost wages, for these injuries if they were caused by someone or something else. Accident victims, especially those who suffer severe injuries, may want to consult a personal injury attorney for advice on their claims.
