With so many drivers on the roads each day, accidents are bound to happen. However, many accidents are avoidable if drivers are attentive and cautious. It is always devastating when family members lose a loved one in an accident that could have been prevented. On Sunday, three Florida families learned of the deaths of their loved ones who were involved in a hit-and-run car accident.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on Sunday. According to reports, a blue van was speeding south on Second Avenue. The van then T-boned the passenger side of a Honda Civic that was traveling west on 82nd. “The Honda probably didn’t know what hit them,” said a spokesman for Miami Fire and Rescue.
After the accident, witnesses stated that the driver of the van fled the scene with a possible leg injury. The impact of the accident forced the Honda against a chain-link fence, killing the driver and two passengers in the back seat. A passenger in the front seat did live but had to be extracted from the mangled vehicle by rescue crews. The 53-year-old passenger was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Police did arrest a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run on Monday morning.
The three victims killed were between 19 and 23 years old. The victims’ families will mourn the loss of their children, and they will begin the New Year knowing that the collision could have been prevented. In accidents such as this, personal injury attorneys work hard to make sure that the person responsible for the collision is held accountable for their actions.
