A Florida woman and her son were returning to their home from a local barbershop when a motorist failed to halt at a stop sign and collided with their car. The motorist, a 30-year-old Florida resident, was allegedly attempting to avoid a routine traffic stop when he sped through the street sign and smashed into the woman’s car with enough force to shove it out of the intersection. The male motorist’s car launched into a power pole and caused an electrical shortage for several hours.
One news report states that the male driver exited his vehicle after the crash and was running from the site when police detained him. He was transported to a hospital before being taken to the police station.
Emergency crews rescued the woman from her vehicle and transported her and her son to a hospital as well. The 11-year-old boy had minor injuries and was able to leave the hospital. His mother was the victim of more catastrophic injuries and remained in critical condition at the time of the news report’s release.
According to records, police officials have booked the male driver on several driving-related charges, including reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, driving without a license causing serious injury or death, fleeing causing injury or death, and resisting an officer. The ordeal began when law enforcement officers attempted to detain the driver for not wearing a seat belt.
Some families decide to sue motorists who harm their loved ones as a result of reckless driving. These dangerous drivers may be liable for damages to the victim, which can help to ease the financial burden of costly hospital bills and other medical expenses.
