An auto accident near a medical school campus in the Miami-Dade area claimed the life of a pedestrian on Thursday, Sept. 12. According to a witness and the police, a doctor was among those present at the scene who administered CPR to the stricken man while waiting for emergency crews to arrive. When Miami Fire Rescue workers reached the scene about 10 minutes after the collision, the car accident victim was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he died. Impaired driving-related charges have been filed in the case.
The Miami Police Department is looking for the doctor who attempted to save the pedestrian because he may have information important to their investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident has been asked to contact the Miami Police Traffic Homicide Unit.
The accident took place at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 20th Street in Miami at approximately 7:20 p.m. A man who was allegedly driving under the influence struck the pedestrian before hitting a concrete pole next to a bus stop. After the crash, the driver failed a roadside sobriety test administered by police. According to reports, he has been charged with DUI manslaughter.
When an innocent bystander is suddenly and catastrophically injured or killed due to a negligent driver, life changes in ways hard to imagine before the accident occurred. An attorney experienced in litigation following a car accident may be able to help surviving family members assess the full extent of their loss and seek compensation through a personal injury or wrongful death claim. An attorney could also negotiate with insurance companies for a fair settlement outside of court that could provide the financial footing family members may need to begin rebuilding their lives.
