Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies say that a pursuit on May 9 ended with four people going to the hospital. It reportedly all began after a man made an illegal u-turn. According to an arrest report, it was almost midnight when deputies attempted to make a traffic stop after watching a white Cadillac make a u-turn on Hallandale Beach Boulevard. That’s when deputies say the driver took off by gunning the car towards them before fleeing south on Interstate 95 into Miami-Dade county.
Somewhere near Miami-Gardens Drive and U.S. Highway 441, police say the pursuit ended when the driver of the white Cadillac lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a pair of other cars. A total of four people were injured as a result of the chase, including the driver. All four were then taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
One of the victims is only 21-years-old and is currently listed in critical condition. The driver was taken to jail after receiving treatment for his injuries. He has since been charged with a total of five charges; aggravated battery and fleeing and eluding law enforcement are two of the more serious ones.
People involved in car accidents and who are injured through no fault of their own often face a host of difficulties. First, they often miss work because of their injuries and then they are hit with staggering medical expenses. Those people should know that the law provides ways for them to sue for compensation for their lost wages and receive payment for the costs of their medical treatment.
