Florida Highway Patrol says car going 100 mph in fatal accident

A fiery car accident took the life of a 38-year-old Port Richey woman on Nov. 11. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that her car was rear-ended by another vehicle that they believe was traveling at speed of more than 100 mile per hour. The auto accident occurred on northbound U.S. 19 in New Port Richey at 3:17 a.m. The woman was pronounced dead about a half hour later at Trinity Medical Center.

Third fire reported in Tesla’s electric Model S luxury vehicle

Fatal car accident leaves man dead

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an elderly man was killed in a Jacksonville car wreck on Oct. 30. The accident occurred when a woman who was eastbound on Martin Luther King Parkway turned her Chevrolet S-10 left onto Moncrief Road and into the path of an oncoming Jeep Wrangler. Florida pedestrian accidents increase during holiday weeks

According to findings by Allstate Insurance Company, pedestrian accidents in Florida increase on average about 23 percent the week of Halloween each year. Allstate released this conclusion after examining claims from the last five years, which revealed the dramatic increase. However, this is not the highest increase experienced in pedestrian accidents from one week to the next. Christmas week brings an increase of 30 percent. Thanksgiving week shows an increase of 20 percent on average.

University of Miami students killed in car crash honored

Friends and family of two University of Miami engineering students attended a candlelight memorial service in their honor after the couple was hit by a car and killed. The woman who struck them with her Porsche has not been charged. The accident happened when the two students were crossing the street at Kendall Drive and 68th Court. A decades-old memory led a geneticist to fill a gap in modeling systems for studying traumatic brain injuries that plague many Florida athletes. When he noticed fruit flies’ reaction to being stunned 40 years ago, he didn’t think much of it. However, as a geneticist at the University of Wisconsin, he realized that he might use the insects’ DNA to research how susceptibility to brain trauma might be coded in the genes.

Two hit-and-run car accidents in just over a month have left one Florida family devastated. The latest accident occurred Oct. 17 when a driver hit a dirt bike a young couple was riding in Perrine, just 20 miles south of Miami, and then drove off.
